This course will provide basic information on set up and maintenance of a sterile field, commonly-used types of anesthesia, universal precautions, and pre- and post-operative considerations. Procedures covered will include chalazion, removal of a foreign body, lesion removal, dilation and irrigation of nasolacrimal duct, insertion and removal of punctum plugs, and treatment of entropion.

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:

• List major steps of most common office procedures.
• Describe proper surgical site preparation and draping.
• List types of anesthesia used in minor surgery.
• Identify pre- and post- operative concerns.
• Describe how to prepare and maintain a sterile field.
