 Basics of Glaucoma - GL101

This course is designed to assist ophthalmic medical personnel in understanding the definition of glaucoma, how it affects the eye, as well as how the disease can affect the visual function of patients with the disease. In addition, various methods of examination technique and instruments used in the detection and management of the disease are discussed.

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  • Discuss the definition of glaucoma
  • Describe Primary Open Angle Glaucoma, Angle Closure Glaucoma, Secondary Glaucoma, and Congenital Glaucoma
  • Discuss Laser and Incisional surgeries used to help manage glaucoma
  • Describe the various instruments used to detect and manage glaucoma
  • Describe how ophthalmic physicians use ophthalmoscopy, scanning lasers, and Optical Coherence Tomography to manage glaucoma
  • Discuss some of the common types of medication used by ophthalmic physicians in the treatment of glaucoma
