 Corneal Pachymetry - CO101

This course is designed to assist ophthalmic medical personnel in developing the skills related to performing accurate pachymetry measurement. In addition, the course addresses how pachymetry is used by physicians for patients who wear extended wear contact lenses, for evaluating ocular pathology, on patients prior to having refractive surgery, and in the detection of glaucoma.

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  • Describe the use of a corneal pachymeter.
  • Describe the two different types of corneal pachymeter instrumentation.
  • Discuss how the corneal pachymeter is used related to evaluation of the cornea when a patient is wearing extended wear contact lenses.
  • Describe how physicians use corneal thickness measurements related to the evaluation of different types of corneal pathology.
  • Describe how physicians evaluate the corneal thickness related to refractive surgery.
  • Discuss how physicians use corneal thickness related to the detection of glaucoma.
